About:

The printer is larger than some of its sisters, while still remaining compact. We do not end up with a machine that can scan and print A3, it is an A4 printer that keeps a contained format.

It is already very nice to see that Epson has managed to compact everything in such a format. All this comes, among other things, from the absence of cartridges, and the ink storage position.

We notice it immediately, the ink is stored in a sort of tanks on the front of the machine. We receive small 65 mL vials, which simply empty into the spaces provided for this purpose. Here the sheets are loaded on the top and will not be able to slip on the lower part of the printer.

Although this has been a bit trendy lately, this is not the case for this ET 2720. So be careful of the sheets which can collect dust if the printer is not used for a long time.

Features:

PRINT QUALITY
The tests will be done with a classic 100g / m² offset paper. It is already a fairly thick paper which will have the advantage of not drinking the ink and drooling. To print text, she knows how to do it without any worries. The text is perfectly sharp and the colors very good too. However, when it comes to printing a logo, or photos, take suitable paper and make the right settings. The right settings mean telling the EcoTank ET 2720 that you are printing on photo paper as well as selecting the optimum print quality.

By default, it has basic print quality. However, it can print in high quality, which therefore takes longer. In the test that we carried out with the Charles Tech logo, however, we did not find any difference between the classic mode and the high-quality mode. The latter is mainly used for photos that you print on photo paper. However, be careful with ink consumption, which will prove to be significant.

The sheet feeder can hold up to 100 standard A4 80g / m² sheets. Count less if you want to print on thicker paper (I like to print on 100g / m² paper for example). You can of course adjust the rulers depending on the media you are printing on. However, we regret the absence of an automatic front/back as well as the absence of an SD card reader.

SCAN AND PHOTOCOPY
When it comes to photocopies, the EcoTank ET 2720 does very well. It allows scanning in 1200 x 2400 DPI, which promises very good quality scans (better than the mouse-scanner that we tested) . Be careful though, if you scan documents like your taxes or an invoice, 150 DPI will be sufficient. In terms of scanning, the quality is obviously good. However, the lack of an SD port does not allow data to be exported to a card which is then inserted into the PC. We are therefore forced to install an application to scan documents on the computer.

Cartridges:  This is the big advantage of this printer. Instead of buying 8mL cartridges, you are buying 65mL refills. They are certainly quite thick and contain a lot of plastic, but will be much better for the environment. Indeed, if we take an average cartridge of 8mL, we would need 8 to reach the same capacity as the refills. In total, we use less plastic with a refill and above all… It’s much cheaper!

It is highly recommended to put more money into an Epson EcoTank printer. Really. You usually pay for the 8mL cartridge around 10 to 15 $ in-store… There, a cartridge (reference 104) is only 10 $! It can print about 4,500 pages on top of that! Still not convinced? There I do not know what you need to see that the price/quality ratio is exceptionally good.

If we bring it down to the price per sheet, let’s take a classic $ 12 black ink cartridge, with which we print 250 sheets. This gives us a cost per sheet of 0.048 $. Now let’s do the same with an Epson 104 refill, at $ 10 that can print 4,500 sheets. We arrive at a cost per sheet of 0.002 $! It actually costs you 22 times less. I think you will understand, you will certainly pay, the printer a little more expensive, but you can print in abundance without breaking the bank!

Connectivity:

To connect the printer to the computer, you have several solutions. First, you have the option of plugging a cable between the two through the printer’s USB-B port. However, the cable is not supplied in the pack. You can also connect it to Wi-Fi to your home network. This connection method is very simple and will avoid you having cables lying around everywhere.

To connect the Epson EcoTank ET-2027 over Wi-Fi, all you need to do is connect to your network on the printer itself. Printing Speed: When connected to a PC, a monochrome page, mostly composed of text, was slower than the average speed of 17.5 pages per minute, and one small photo was printed at an average speed of 5.9 ppm. The speed of my Mac was about the same. It's 17.7ppm for monochrome text and 6 ppm for a mix of four pages of text and graphics in a single PDF file, which is above average.

Out Quality: The graphics quality was somewhat rough and gritty, but acceptable, best for office document printing.
